Are you the listener you want to be? Would others agree?

Most of us assume we’re good listeners and that the problem lies with other people. Beyond Active Listening asks participants to look more closely at how they listen, what they retain, what they miss, and why it matters. The workshop draws on Kym’s award-winning book, Head, Heart & Hands Listening in Coach Practice, and introduces the 3H Model. It covers three distinct ways of listening, each with its own strengths and blind spots. Through discussion, paired practice, and hands-on activities, your team will gain useful, actionable insight into their listening skills, challenges, biases, and strengths. Workshops are available in person or as live virtual sessions, and both formats are built for real participation rather than passive watching.

The Program

  • Take an honest inventory. Participants reflect on their default listening habits and compare how they think they listen with how they actually do.
  • Learn the 3H Model. Explore Head, Heart, and Hands listening, what each one notices, and what each one tends to overlook.
  • Practice in real conversations. Paired and small-group exercises let people try each mode and notice the difference it makes, both as the speaker and as the listener.
  • Match the mode to the moment. Teams work through real workplace scenarios to choose the listening style each situation calls for.
