Are you the listener you want to be? Would others agree?
Most of us assume we’re good listeners and that the problem lies with other people. Beyond Active Listening asks the audience to look more closely at how they listen, what they retain, what they miss, and why it matters. The keynote draws on Kym’s award-winning book, Head, Heart & Hands Listening in Coach Practice, and introduces the 3H Model: three distinct ways of listening, each with its own strengths and blind spots. Short partner exchanges and live reflection keep the room engaged, and people leave with honest, actionable insight into their own listening skills, challenges, biases, and strengths.
The Program
The listening gap. Why we rate ourselves as better listeners than the people around us do, and what that gap costs.
Head, Heart, and Hands. The three modes of the 3H Model, what each one notices, and what each one tends to overlook.
Try it in the room. Quick partner exercises let the audience feel the difference between the modes as both the speaker and the listener.
Match the mode to the moment. Practical guidance for choosing the right kind of listening at work.

Shout out to Kym for her thought-provoking presentation at the ASPE 2025 Annual Conference in Montreal! Months ago, I had the privilege of reading her book “Head Heart & Hands Listening in Coach Practice” - a robust tome about how to leverage three primary yet distinct ways of listening. At ASPE she was able to distill the content down to a manageable and interesting presentation, keeping an audience of almost 200 people engaged. She followed her presentation with an enjoyable workshop that had us moving, teaming and laughing. Contact Kym if you’re seeking smart, practical guidance on improving communication within a team, department, or community.
